When our expectations do not match the reality of what God has planned, the consequences can be devastating. On several occasions Jesus' disciples held onto their expectations even though Christ spoke clearly what was about to happen. Neither they or the rest of Jewish society would submit their expectations to Christ's clearly announced plans. In Luke 19:28-44 Jesus gives a visual demonstration of what He has told them, and then Jesus weeps over the consequence of the national leader's refusal to accept His announcement.
